Update 9/24

Welcome back, again. Our good friend Marco Oppedisano, has been enjoying the very positive reception of his OKSRNA debut album Electroacoustic Compositions For Electric Guitar. But what could be more amazing than getting played on NPR's New Sounds? On September 13th they played two of his tracks, The Dark Wood and Eternal Lovers, and they've linked to us on their page (Thank you!). Click here to check out the playlist and listen to the show.

Okay, we've got new podcasts, Little Ricky's House of Chankletas deliver a Gershwin piece backed by AMM version of their ongoing life story of a lobster, or lubster in this case with Funeral Of A Lubster!! Alex Spalding's latest is a mix of ghost voices from the ether in Midwest Air. El Plan De Aguavodka runs a drum machine through some effects and takes us inside an ice machine is Red October Ice Machine. And finally, I end the Instant Compositions for Gameboy series with the epic ICGB6 in this week's Painful Leg Injuries Podcast. Next week tune in for the 20th PLI podcast series, Open Up and Say ZZZT! compositions and performances of my circuit bent instruments and toys.

Take care everyone!

Update 9/17

This weekend I took part in something of an Austin tradition, the Austin City Limits festival. Only there for the Sunday line-up, I caught Common, Lucinda Williams, Wilco, The Decemberists, and I stuck around for few songs of Dylan's set. I'm a fan of Dylan's but outdoor festivals are extremely draining and let's just say a set by Bob Dylan should never be comparable to ODB, Napalm Death or Cookie Monster. I also found a decent amount of new music that I quite enjoyed (Devotchka, Midlake, Ghostland Observatory).

However, there's very little Americana in our podcasts this week, though after Wilco's great set I can see how one could aspire to be Neil Young, and Thurston Moore.

The Painful Leg Injuries continue our latest series of Instant Compositions for Gameboy with ICGB5. Little Ricky's House of Chankletas' latest is easy like Monday morning, It's Sunday That Changes Everything. El Plan De Aguavodka gives us a razor sharp drone piece by twisting his oscillator tone and Casio VL1 keyboard into a violin. Reminds me of a Harry Bertoia sound sculpture piece, another amazing EPDA podcast. Alex Spalding also has a rising crescendo piece with his latest The Vertical.

Have a great week.

Update 9/10

Ah, the old west. Over the weekend, for this first time in I'm not sure how long a western opened in theaters, and topped the box office. I love the advertising, "The Best Western Since Unforgiven", which reminds me, how many westerns have there been since Unforgiven?

But anyway, now that I'm a citizen of these here parts, The Painful Leg Injuries will be playing our first show since we moved to Austin. We will be at the Maker Faire, performing live on Saturday, October 20th. I couldn't be happier to play the Maker Faire, I'm huge fan of the Make zine.

Our old reliable hired gun, John Ibarra, of El Plan De Aguavodka gives us a Morricone soundtrack by way of a distorted casio drone with He's my friend (but he's workin' for the law). I love his song titles, they give amazing narrative strands that open his pieces up to so many more possibilities you will love it.

Alex Spalding delivers an abrasive, yet pretty ambient piece with his Vac-uuming II. It's like a cricket trapped on circuit board occasionally risking electrocution. Little Ricky's House of Chankletas' Multiple Relaxing Plants,
is a relaxed evolving improv, that is aptly titled.

Until next week, take care.

The Painful Leg Injuries to Perform At The Maker Faire!

Big exciting news! The Painful Leg Injuries will be performing on October 20th at Make zine's Maker Faire.

It's being held at Austin's Travis County Fairgrounds on October 20th and 21st.

I'm a huge fan of Make, it's an invaluable resource for circuit benders, people who are interested in electronics and most importantly, building things themselves. The Maker Faire is (in their words) "..... a two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It's for creative, resourceful folks who like to tinker and love to make things. We call them Makers."

Those of you who follow this blog will know that my wife and I (PLI) have recently moved to Austin, Texas, and this will be our debut show in the Austin area. Come check it out.

Update 9/3

We hope that you've all gotten really sick of the hot summer weather and are ready to see some leaves die.

While you relax today, enjoy our new round of podcasts. Little Ricky's House of Chankletas give us Takitoo, a ecstasy-driven space jazz jam. El Plan De Aguavodka takes us on a tour through the MOMA with Richard Serra. Ironically small and idiosyncratic sounding, compared to the work of the artist whom this piece is named for. However, the size of the sounds doesn't compare to lovely sum of its parts.

The Painful Leg Injuries deliver another retro-futuristic jazz take on 8bit bandwagon-ing with ICGB3 the third in their latest series. Alex Spalding's latest News is an amazing miniature, his best podcast so far. He gives us a fist pumping jam that recalls Nine Inch Nails if Trent dropped the dopey lyrics and sweated Throbbing Gristle a little harder.

Thanks again for listening, and join us next week.
