2008 Podcasts begin this Monday!
Now for my favorite records of '07...
My top ten recordings of 2007:
I have to say this is a weird year for me.
Panda Bear's record topped
my list early on this year and nothing
else came close. And what's
weirder is that I actually agree
with Pitchfork! Luckily for my coolness
card, that is where most of the
agreement ends.
Many of my favorites didn't land in
their top 50. For the record, I disqualified
any OKSRNA releases due to the fact
I might be slighted towards the artists
I have on my label.
1) Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Excellent combination of Brian
Wilson's lush pop and Panda's own
Animal Collective weirdness.
Tops the year and all his work
with theAnimal Collective.
2) Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid - Tongues
Fourtet's music started to
sound too cold for an artist
who is accredited
with bringing warmth to
modern electronica, Steve
Reid gives his samples
a lively jazzy pulse.
3) Aufgehoben - Messidor
Imagine Lightning Bolt's
electro-acoustic side project.
Awesome.
4) The Battles - Mirrored
Great update to Post-Rock
and Math-Rock, Tyondai
Braxton's excellent
performance catapults
this supergroup into finally
living up to their potential.
5) Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends
A welcome return of one
my all time favorite rock bands.
6) Astral Social Club - Neon Phibroch
Noise act delves into
the unholy area of techno,
and it works marvelously.
7) Kemialleset Ystevet - Kemialleset Ystevet
Freak noise symphonies
from these amazing
nut-jobs in Finland.
8) Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala
Even catchier Jonathan
Richman-esque pop.
9) Supersilent - 8
Why aren't these guys
as big as Wolf Eyes?
10) Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Even a slightly sub-par
AC album is top ten worthy.
Honorable mention- Kanye West -
Graduation, A Place To
Bury Strangers - S/T,
The Liars - S/T, and the best box
set of the year Miles Davis'
Complete On
The Corner Sesssions
We'll see you on Monday.
