Monday, March 31, 2008Update 3/31 Welcome back, folks. The Harmful Free Radicals, my pop duo with Jonah Goldstein, (the co-owner of OKSRNA along with myself, and of U/M/S) will finally have our debut album, Duplicate Factories of Washington State see release any day now. This project started in 2003 and lead to the creation of this label, but because of the distance between us, Jonah lives in LA, I was in NYC, now I'm in Austin, we only had rare opportunities to work on it. It's a weird hybrid of indie rock, experimental electronics and just flat out pop songs, and it's quite a surprising direction for us, and it's nothing like the Painful Leg Injuries or the Unevenness of the Moon's Surface. You can check it out by downloading the track, Can I Eat The Whole Thing. Barry Seroff former member of Little Ricky's House of Chankletas will be performing in New Haven, CT for all the folks we know around there (huh?). Here's the word from Barry himself: "I am playing this saturday with New Haven Improvisers Collective this Saturday in (where else?) New Haven. All you CT folks are totally invited. Saturday April 5th, 8 PM Neverending Books 810 State St., New Haven Free! www.neverendingbooks.net http://www.nhic-music.org/ We will be premiering my piece, 'For 6', as well as works by Bob Gorry, Nate Trier, Jeff Cedrone, JohnVenterr and Stephen Zieminski. Hope you all can make it!" I'm sure Barry will be awesome. This week's podcasts, El Plan De Aguavodka gives us a haunted psychic dream with The Wreck of the General Slocum. Alex Spalding gives us the latest epsiode of Dead Pulse with Soulbot, a twisted drum machine and static beat. The Painful Leg Injuries drop the fifth episode of Up With the Ether with Squiggles Run Around Your Brain, a melody of a lost ice cream truck. Stay tuned, until next week. Monday, March 24, 2008Update 3/24 Welcome back. This El Plan De Aguavodka returns from his series of Forced Confessions with a new test oscillator improv/tape mix, the absolutely frightening and stunning Disaster/Easter In El Paso. Alex Spalding delivers another fierce noise blast with his latest Atrophied Cognition. He mixes some quite pretty moments in the middle of a lot slow paced violence. Also, The Painful Leg Injuries drop the fourth episode of the Up With the Ether series called Paul, Call I'm A Freak. Naming these tracks has been like a game of telephone for me, I do my best discern what the voices are saying, who knows, could the phrase "Paul, call I'm a freak?" come up in casual conversation? Until next week take care. I got the first copies of the debut of the Harmful Free Radicals today, so check this blog for updates on our next release. Monday, March 17, 2008Update 3/17 Welcome back,New podcasts this week from The Painful Leg Injuries with the third part of the Up In The Ether Series, called Fits Carabaldo. El Plan De Aguavodka gives us the eighth Forced Confession. Alex Spalding also brings us his latest in his Dead Pulse series, Ovum. Full update next week, I'm still getting over having a lot of out of town visitors and SXSW, until next week, take care. Monday, March 10, 2008Update 3/10
Welcome back again everyone.
This week, El Plan De Aguavodka continues his long series of Forced Confessions with the 7th part, Empty Handed on 18th Street. Each part of ths series has been very spatial, and this one is no exception, it's like a long gasping breath. The Painful Leg Injuries deliver the second part of the Up In The Ether series with Aria for Player Piano. This piece is a collage of disembodied voices and lost chimes. Alex Spalding drops a spiky piece of mutant techno with Coagulated Responsive Fluid. Thanks again, until next week. Monday, March 03, 2008Update 3/3 This week the Painful Leg Injuries Podcast begins it's 24th series with it's 110th episode, Could Be Dying, Dying, Dying? This series called Up With The Ether is six compositions I've made using my circuit bent Casio SK-1 to sample short wave radio. My father gave me a classic Heathkit 5w 7800 receiver for my birthday, which I then routed to my computer, and on a separate channel routed to my Casio SK-1's sampler input. From there on, I found scan around looking for sounds and voices, many of the titles in the series come from what I think the voices are saying. Enjoy!Had a great weekend last week, when co-owner of OKSRNA, Jonah Goldstein and I met up for the first time in quite a while to start work on the second Harmful Free Radicals album. Our debut, Duplicate Factories of Washington State is at the printer's right now and should be available very soon. The El Plan De Aguavodka Podcast returns this week with the sixth episode of Forced Confession. Another lovely creeping drone that mixes menace with natural beauty. Also returning this week is the Alex Spalding Podcast with Playgrounds, an epic 17 minute long track of evolving insane textures and ultimately aggressive noise. This is the first of his new series called Dead Pulse, enjoy. Here's a video of me Wiimote-performing my circuit bent Speak and Spell and Casio SK1 . I've been covered by the getlofi and Highly Liquid blogs for this project. Thanks to John from Highly Liquid and getlofi. If haven't done so yet, check out my free download album of Wiimote music, The Rich Man's Godforesaken Driver's Seat. To give it a listen click here, or to download it click here. Thanks for listening, until next week.
